Worn at:Katsucon 2005
Character: Maes Hughes from Full Metal Alchemist
Construction: 'Hardest' of the three Hughes family costumes, I used a 'bottom weight' cotton, which I think worked
wonderfully. Jacket took the longest, because I had to draft the pattern, and it took lots of studying of footage to get it
pretty close to the design. The gray piping was all cut and pressed by me, and added on. It was also a pain in the butt, lol.
The rank bar was made by hand with embroidery floss on stiff-backed cotton, and then attached to the jacket. There is a 'hidden'
pocket there, where Hughes likes to sometimes whip photos out from. The pant were made from a pattern, the boot covers were
borrowed from Ashram, and the 'skirt-like' thing was made without a
pattern.
Notes: Ah Hughes, how we love thee. Brian really seems to like this costume, and I'm quite proud of it! People seem to really like seeing Hughes,
especially with his family. Also, the photo he was proudly showing off, was an actual photo of our daughter in her
Elysia-chan costume. I tried to get her to pose like one of the photos Hughes
actually has in the show. I think the only complaint Brian has about this costume is that it gets quite warm after awhile. Lots of layers after all.
